| 説明 | Velvet lupine growing in a meadow where introduced perennial grasses like smooth brome (Bromus inermis) and tall fescue (Schedonorus arundinaceus) are abundant. This site lies along the Sourdough trail in Graf East Park, near Graf Street, Bozeman, Gallatin County. Montana. The velvety spreading hairs, banner petal reflexed less than 45 degrees (and with conspicuous hairs on the back of the banner), and dense flowering spikes set mostly above the foliage are diagnostic of this lupine species. The abundance of this native forb in a patch of smooth brome is one of many examples that suggest smooth brome and other introduced perennial grasses are prone to invasion by native plants if herbicide is not applied and livestock grazing is absent. |
