説明Woolshed Flat. Nearby Rhynie was predominantly settled by Irish Catholics and Scots. Robert Milne of Drumminor House Modbury had a town laid out on his land in 1859. He named the town Rhynie after his birthplace in Scotland near Balmoral Castle. An Irish hotelier, Mr Ryan had set up at this spot on a creek earlier and opened a Hotel. The township soon had a flour mill, a school and stores. On the Rhynie to Balaklava road Wesleyan Methodists built a church at a swampy spot known as woolshed Flat. The small stone church was opened here in 1859 on land donated by James Kemp. In 1866 a Sunday School building was opened adjacent. Parliamentary papers show that this operated as a school from 1865 with 33 enrolled pupils. It closed as a government school in 1872. Miss Wilson the teacher, was respected by locals and obtained good examination results for her pupils. The church operated until 1971. More recently a small group of locals, including descendants of the original land donor, have formed a trust to maintain and preserve the church and its attached cemetery. It is superbly sited, and a great reminder of the importance of religion to farming communities in the 19th century. The Woolshed Flat Church Building Incorporated hires it out for weddings and appropriate functions. The cremation niche wall in the cemetery was opened in 1999. The main family names in the cemetery are: Ellery; Harvey; Kemp; Plew; and Uppill. An unknown Aboriginal is also buried in the cemetery. The district was named woolshed flat as a local pastoralist had scoured his wool fleeces in the creek there near his early shearing shed. The English Anglicans of Auburn.
