| 説明 | Built in 1905-1910, this Renaissance Revival-style building was designed by Charles E. Bell and Menno Detweiler to serve as the capitol building for the state of South Dakota. The building was based on the Montana State Capitol, but was modified for the specific needs of South Dakota, as well as to better reflect the state’s French heritage. The building was expanded with a rear annex in 1931-1932, designed by Charles E. Bell and C. LeRoy Kinports. The building is clad in Bedford Limestone with a rusticated red Marquette Raindrop Sandstone base, a dome with corner niches, corinthian pilasters and columns on the drum below the dome, a heavily ornamented dome with oxeye dormers and a lantern, replacement windows, a balustrade parapet, two-story entrance porticoes with fluted corinthian columns and pilasters, and pediments on the end bays of the building’s front and rear facades. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Today, the building remains the seat of the state government of South Dakota. |
