| 説明 | Built in 1927, this eclectic Renaissance Revival-style building was likely designed by J. T. Hoffman for the S. H. Kress Company, a chain of discount five and dime stores that existed across the Southern United States during the 20th Century. The building features a polychromatic terra cotta front facade with metal-frame windows, festoons, cartouches, decorative trim, relief panels, gargoyles on the cornice, finials atop the parapet, a penthouse atop the central bay of the front facade with oxeye windows, large first floor plate glass windows with transoms flanked by rusticated pillars, and buff brick cladding on the side and rear facades. The building is a contributing structure in the Court Square Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. |
