| 説明 | an experiment.I lifted this decent sized sod (pocket knife for scale) from Manus's orchard and transplanted it into my new orchard. I am hoping it will be a significant source of seed for expanding the yellow rattle. anyway it will be interesting to see how this works out and always nice to try something newFor the 124 pictures in 2024 group: number 100. Something you've never doneYellow rattle is an annual flower. It is a hemi-parasite taping into the roots of grasses, drawing water and nutrients from them. It can suppress the growth of grasses by as much as 60%. This has the effect of allowing a variety of wild flowers to out compete the grasses and lead to a meadow that is more diverse and with more flowers.I have sown yellow rattle in the meadow in August and have been able to find a few seedlings but only a few, so wanting to find other ways to supplement the yellow rattle population. I will also harvest yellow rattle seeds from Manus's orchard at the end of July and sow them into scarified areas of the meadow, and keep doing that until it gets established hopefully. |
