| 説明 | North Ealing Underground Station (Piccadilly Line), 13 April 2024. The station was completed in 1899 by the Metropolitan District Railway on its extension from Ealing Common to South Harrow but, due to low expected travel levels, the station and the branch, so far as Park Royal, was not opened until June 1903 (and a few days later in the month to South Harrow). In March 1910 the branch services were extended over Metropolitan tracks to Uxbridge. North Ealing was the only station on the South Harrow branch not rebuilt in the 1930’s in the Holden style for the replacement of District services by Piccadilly services, which occurred in July 1932 when they were extended from Hammersmith. In October 1933 the Piccadilly services were extended further from South Harrow to Uxbridge, replacing the remnant of the District service. It is not clear who the architect of North Ealing station was but it may have been George Campbell Sherrin, who was used extensively by the District Railway in the 1893-1909 period, although it is not in his style. The station is the only surviving original District Railway station on the Ealing Common – South Harrow line and is a Grade II listed building.Pictured is the station frontage and canopy over one of the platforms. |
