| 説明 | Church of St Andrew, Coryton Devon built of roughly dressed stone with some granite and local stone dressings, stands near a small collection of village houses in a scattered parish. It stands near the river Clyst = "Clear Stream" in Old English , The present building replaced an earlier 6c one in c 1261 of which the chancel walls with two 13c lancets survives, The nave was then rebuilt in the 15c and the three stage tower with projecting rectangular north east stair turret .was added in the 16c. There are 5 bells in the tower the oldest dating from 1684.The gable roofed porch was added in 1840 together with a large north transept and probably the north east vestry . A major restoration by the Newman family lords of the manor in 1885 replaced the north transept with a 2-bay aisle over their family vault, and replaced the chancel arch in the Early English style. The east wall of chancel was also partly rebuilt with Perpendicular 3-light east window The square font bowl is probably 15c, and stands on 4-corner shafts, www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/SL1N1BG5zQThe interior is largely 1885 with Purbeck double-chamfered chancel arch carried on engaged shafts with bell capitals. Far less architectural is the 2-bay Purbeck north arcade with almost flat arches carried on a pier of square section with engaged corner shafts with bell capitals. Wide 1885 arch between chancel and north east organ chamber cum vestry. 1885 arched panel and rib chancel roof with carved bosses with contemporary arched brace and collar roofs to nave and aisle. Of the same date are the benches and rectangular pulpit with chamfered corners and blind tracery.
