| 説明 | Food for thought in an aircon environment- Nyonya style fried rice in a restaurant by the Malacca/ Melaka river in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Malacca/ Melaka. Nyonya Fried Rice is a dish combining Chinese and Malay cuisines. It is made with cooked rice, which is fried with egg, shrimp, and vegetables. The rice is also seasoned with a variety of spices that give the dish its characteristic flavour. So much for the food. Now for the thought- I was initially the only diner, as I began to eat, the friendly manageress came up to me and started talking and asking how old I was and why I am traveling along. I told her I am 64, wife walked out and so an empty nester etc. The good lady then said this has happened to her twice- not once but twice. She then gave me some sage advice- bear no malice towards anyone, be young at heart and simply enjoy life. So meaningful, her words. Incidentally at least two more people in Malacca gave me the same kind of advice. Indeed, food for thought. While leaving the restaurant, I wished the good manageress well and wished her well for a good future. (Malacca/ Melaka, Malaysia, Sept. 2023) |
