| 説明 | The main entrance to the Malacca/ Melaka zoo is sadly obscured by these haphazardly placed temporary pavilions right in front of the entrance. Malacca/ Melaka zoo is considered to be the second-largest zoo in Malaysia behind the National Zoo of Malaysia in Selangor. (about 55 km from KL). Incidentally, both these zoos were established in 1963. Apart from being a zoological park, the Malacca/ Melaka zoo also functions as a rescue centre and an animal sanctuary and was initially owned by the Malacca State Government. The management of the Malacca/ Melaka zoo was later taken over by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Malaysia in 1979. The zoo was opened to the public on 13 August 1987.
