| 説明 | Malacca/ Melaka trishaw ride pic. 1 of 8: Here is another definite icon of Malacca/ Melaka - the garish trishaw. The trishaw driver gives me a friendly smile, but it does not make much to ride these during the day, for it's too hot and muggy for one, and also, these trishaws are infinitely more colourful and lively by night. (see subsequent pictures later in t his album). The UNESCO World Heritage listed historic town of Malacca/ Melaka, Malaysia offers an eclectic blend of Asian and European influences. The town bears traces of and takes inspiration from Malay, Chinese, Indian, Portuguese and Dutch cultures. This varied background is further displayed by these colorful trishaws (pedicabs) which cruise around the town's historic Dutch Square. (in the background is Christ Church Melaka). Each driver decorates his trishaw with bright flowers, flags and souvenirs which light up at night to their colourful best. Many- if not most- of these trishaws are also fitted with music systems which play loud local and western songs at night.(Malacca/ Melaka, Malaysia, Sept. 2023) |
