| 説明 | Istana Kesultan Melaka museum: pic. 16 of 18: Diorama depicting an ancient Nobat music ensemble in the Istana Kesultan Melaka museum. Before Malaysian independence, the Nobat, an ancient royal instrumental ensemble dating back to about the 16th century, performed exclusively at important court ceremonies in the palaces of the Sultans throughout Malaysia, notably in the palaces of Perak, Kedah, Selangor, and Trengganu. Today, in Kedah, the ensemble consists of five instruments: one big goblet drum (negara), two double-headed drums (gendang), one long oboe (nafiri), one small oboe (nafiri), and one gong. The music is made up of ten surviving pieces and is always performed live. Back to this museum, the Istana Kesultan Melaka- the Sultanate Palace Museum, set at the foot of St. Paul’s Hill, Malacca, is an authentic wooden replica of Sultan Mansur Shah’s palace that was built in the 15th century. It is now a beautiful museum which exhibits the opulent lifestyle of the erstwhile Sultan and also artifacts and dioramas pertaining to the history of Malacca/ Melaka. More notes about the Itana Kesultan Melaka museum appeared earlier in this album. (see previous pictures). (Malacca/ Melaka, Malaysia, Sept. 2023) |
