| 説明 | On south side of chancel are memorials to the daughters of John Burrington of West Sanford;Eldest daughter Margaret Burrington died in 1666 has a mural memorial comprising a rectangular slate plaque in a Beerstone frame surmounted by crowned skulls on pedestals and lozenge-shaped heraldic achievement in a cartouche. She died, probably unmarried, on 3rd June 1666.Next to it is a memorial to her sister Anne Burrington who died in 1659 - set in a Beerstone frame enriched with egg and dart. Both Burrington memorials include obituaries and Anne's is unusually original, but sadly unreadable in parts;"Here lyeth under neath the body of Ann the daughter of John Burrington of West Sandford, esq, who departed this life ye first of July 1659 About this infant rose a strife (?)betwixt two playmates Death & Life ......... but Death the stronger and more bold prevailed, and Life gave up her hold ..........and gives her lifeforever to remain" - - Church of St Andrew, Colebrooke Devonpearl.plymouth.ac.uk/bitstream/handle/10026.1/2285/CLIVE%... |
