| 説明 | Built in the 1200s, the Frankish Castle of Parikia was built by the Sanoudo family, from Venice, whom ruled over the island for several centuries as the Duchy of the Aegean. The castle incorporates spolia from an ancient Greek temple that formerly stood on the site, which is still visible in the walls of the structure. The castle, which stands on the highest ground in the town of Parikia, is today home to several newer limewashed houses, as well as small chapels built using parts of the old fortifications. Today, the castle attracts visitors to its sweeping panoramic views of Parikia Harbor, as well as the various historic structures atop the hill. |
