説明Founded circa 3200 BC as a trading port inhabited by the Minoans from nearby Crete, Parikia is the principal town on the island of Paros, and prospered during antiquity due to the island’s marble quarries. The island prospered until the Roman period, during which it stagnated due to its status as a place of exile. Following the division of the empire, Paros once again became prosperous, seeing the construction of the Panagia Ekatontapiliani Church in the 300s AD, and remained part of the Byzantine Empire until the Fourth Crusade in 1207. Between 1207 and 1389, Paros ruled by the Duchy of the Aegean, and then was part of the Venetian Empire, until it fell to the Ottoman Empire 1537. Between 1537 and 1821, the island was ruled by the Ottomans, but was part of the initial Greek state, which became officially independent in 1832. The town today is a major destination for tourists, with Cycladic-style houses and churches, a scenic coastline, a historic cathedral, and the remains of a Frankish fort from the Crusades that incorporates elements of an ancient greek temple.
