| 説明 | In Saxon times, Pinchbeck was an important place attached to Crowland Abbey, and during the Middle Ages it was a market town. The church dates from the twelfth century onwards with the chancel being rebuilt in 1861.There is a tall three-stage tower from the fourteenth century with embattled parapet and crocketted pinnacles in the corners. There are eight bells. The tower is on a lean, which probably started when it was being built. Most of the church is from the perpendicular period. At the east end of the nave there is a thirteenth century mandorla window set high up.The nave has five tall thirteenth century arcades with alternating round and octagonal piers and some reused twelfth century work. The clerestory has 10 windows. The north windows of the north aisle contain mediaeval stained glass in their traceries. The nave roof is from the fifteenth century, and the ceiling is decorated with painted and gilded wooden Angels attached to the hammer beam roof which carry Shields to the Pinchbeck families. There is a fourteenth century octagonal font. The north Chapel is at the east end of the north aisle with a three bay arcade to the chancel. The Chapel has 14th century glass in the east window. The organ is located on the north side of the chancel. At the east end of the nave is a large tomb from the fifteenth century to Sir Thomas Pinchbeck, and an early seventeenth century brass. There is also a gabled fourteenth century south porch, originally with a fan vault. The inner doorway is also from the fourteenth century and has three orders of moulding. The church was restored by Butterfield from 1855 to 1864 who added a vestry and renewed the chancel roof. |
