| 説明 | Built in 1915, this gate was once the entrance to an apartment house for the local Jewish community in the Jewish Quarter, as demonstrated by the hebrew writing above the door. The building fell into disrepair due to the bombing raid on Rhodes during World War II, which heavily damaged the Jewish Quarter, which was vacated when the island’s Jewish population was expelled by the Italians. After World War II, the building remained in a state of disrepair, and remains dilapidated today, a forlorn reminder of the island’s now-vanished Jewish community, and is part of the Old Town of Rhodes, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. |
