| 説明 | I personally scanned this original WWI British press photo from my collection. The sticker on the back of this has this purple stamp: "PASSED FOR W W 06743 TRANSMISSION ABROAD" and the text:WITH THE TROOPS IN MESOPOTAMIA395 Advanced Head Quarters at Kara Tepe. ISSUED BY THE ASSOCIATED ILLUSTRATION AGENCIES, LTD.,St. Mary's Chambers, 161a, Strand, LONDON. W.C.Please acknowledge "British Official".Crown Copyright ReservedThis WWI press photo was published many times from July 1918 onwards[1-3] , under many captions, such as "Heliograph station of British advanced headquarters at Kara Tepe, about twenty miles south of Kifri"[2]. Kara Tepe, south of Kifri, was captured Dec. 5, 1917 ([4] (with map showing Kara Tepe and Kifri), [5]). This heliograph is the Indian Army pattern, not a Mance. At the the rear this heliograph has the broad cylinder below the keying disk, that projects far from the heliograph base (see comparison photo here: flic.kr/p/RhURWT ) At the front, the "right ear" of the mirror yoke is delicate, lacking the massive reinforcement of the Mance Mark IV/V, and I don't see the linkage mounting bracket at the top of the mirror ( see comparison photo here: flic.kr/p/RtmJsX ) The tops of the tripod legs also differ from the British heliograph tripod. The attached map from the New York Times shows the location of Kara Tepe. This is a low resolution preview - it may be viewed and downloaded at resolutions up to 12957x9762 pixels here:www.flickr.com/photos/signalmirror/53458540226/sizes/l/Comparing this to other high resolution copies [6-9], it seems that this image has been slightly cropped on the right - see [7] or [8] to see what is missing. Curiously, all high resolution copies save for [9] show a scratch at right above the horizon - perhaps [9] was retouched.I believe this image to be in the public domain in the US as an image published before 1929, and worldwide as a United Kingdom Crown Copyright photograph taken prior to 1 June 1957 ( see: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:PD-UKGov )Any rights I may have inadvertently acquired by scanning it, I donate to the public domain under a CC0 license. However, copyright and other intellectual property rights are complex and vary worldwide and with time - rights determination is your responsibility.[1] The Wireless Age, Volume 5, July 1918, page 830A signal detachment at headquarters, Kara Tepe, Mesopotamia, with the heliograph and buzzer in active use."
