説明 | Built in 1881-1882, this Italianate-style building was constructed to serve as the courthouse for Cochise County, which was formed in 1881, and served as the county courthouse until 1929, when the county seat was moved to nearby Bisbee, a copper mining town that had boomed in the years that Tombstone had declined. The building features a red brick exterior with stone quoins, a cornice with modillions, a low-pitch gabled roof, a tower with a mansard roof and arched one-over-one double-hung windows, four-over-four double-hung windows with decorative trim surrounds and window hoods, a front portico with rectilinear columns and a rooftop balustrade, and paneled wooden front doors. The building is a contributing structure in the Tombstone Historic District, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1961 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. The building was listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, and presently houses a museum. |
