説明 | Built in 1964-1965 as a Modern International-style Skyscraper, this 19-story building was originally designed by D. Gene Whittington and built by George Goodyear, with a design inspired by the works of Mies van der Rohe. The building was originally home to Northwestern Bank, which was acquired by First Union Bank in 1985, and sold several branches in the region, to the Branch Banking and Trust Company (BB&T), after which the building became home to the regional offices of BB&T in 1988. The building housed BB&T and various office tenants until 2016, when BB&T moved to a new building on College Street east of Pack Square, and the building subsequently underwent a major renovation project, which was carried out from 2016-2019 under the direction of Reese Vanderbilt and Associates and Cleveland Construction, Inc. for McKibbon Hospitality. The building was renovated with a full reconstruction and modernization of the interior, replacement of the exterior glass curtain wall with a new curtain wall, which features stone panel and stucco cladding, aluminum-framed glass windows, decorative Art Deco-style metal trim and decorative panels at the top of the building, stepped parapets, metal canopies at the base, a refaced rear parking garage podium, and a front terrace surrounded by a metal railing. The building today is known as The Arras, and is home to the Kimpton Hotel Arras on the first nine floors, with the Arras Private Residences, a residential condominium, on the 10th through 19th floors. |
