| 説明 | Built in 1840, this Greek Revival-style building is a scaled down version of a design by Robert Mills, and was constructed by Charles Beck and James Boatwright, likely using slave labor, to house the campus library for South Carolina College, now the University of South Carolina. The building is clad in red brick with a three-story portico featuring large doric columns, arched bays on the second floor of the exterior facade, eight-over-eight double-hung windows, a stepped parapet over the front portico, and a semi-circular stairwell at the central bay of the rear facade of the building. The building is a contributing structure in the Old Campus District, University of South Carolina Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. |
