| 説明 | Latten brass lectern of c 1450. It belongs to a late 15 century design group which includes the lecterns at Billingford (Norfolk), St Nicholas Chapel, King's Lynn (Norfolk), Christ's College Cambridge, Peterborough Cathedral and St Mark's, Venice. However,it only has three lions at the base, as opposed to the four at Billingford and King's Lynn, St Nicholas, and Peterborough. The eagle lectern was recorded as being at Isleham in an inventory of 1552. It was, according to local tradition, hidden in the fen during a period of religious suppression and recovered during draining of the land in 1831. It is described as being in the form of an eagle with outstretched wings as a book rest, on a sphere with lions sejant at the base. |
