| 説明 | The Second World War radio navigation site at Burifa Hill is located on the remote Dunnet Head, the most northerly headland on mainland Scotland. The site was equipped with AMES 7000 (Gee) and AMES 700 LORAN equipment. The site consists of a domestic site to the south and the technical site on the high plateau to the north. The domestic site has largely been demolished, with hut bases and chimneys remaining. The technical site retains brick built blast walls around the standby set house, two transmitter blocks and two receiver blocks. There are also four concrete antenna feet beside each of the RX and TX blocks. The upper site also has four hexaganol emplacements that would have once mounted light anti-aircraft guns; possibly 20mm Hispano canons. And was it raining on my visit? Very much so. |
