| 説明 | Interior shot taken from the west balcony of the East Street Congregational chapel in Chulmleigh Devon built in 1710 which must have replaced an earlier one attested by coats of arms on the north wall inscribed "Arms of John Bowring who gave the ground" and "Arms of Lewis Stuckley who built this chapel 1633". The single storey chapel was repaired in 1793 and again c 1803-4, The west end was enlarged in 1836 and the east end in 1933. Single storey chapel followed on the south side by a school-room extension of two storeys in 1837 "for the education of children of any denomination, the other apartments for the use of either of the minister or school-master for the time being'. The 20c windows are in 19c Gothick style The chapel has a flat plaster ceiling and a raised ceiling above the early 19c west gallery, which has a panelled front with rounded projecting centre, on 4 turned columns, early 19c clock on front with wooden case with Gothick traceried panel. Smaller singing gallery over south entrance probably c 1800, with rounded panelled front supported on 2 turned timber columns, with some original seating and slender staircase giving access to the gallery with vase finial to lower newel. The pulpit, believed to have come from the parish church, has octagonal drum with 3 heights of bolection-moulded panels, with panelled back- board, and octagonal tester with shaped top supported by wrought-iron pendant and dove finial, probably early 18c but incorporating some earlier material in the canopy. The chapel seating was replaced in 1882. There are 2 early 19c brass chandeliers of 6 and 8 branches and an early 18c communion table with 4 baluster legs.
