| 説明 | Kings Cross, 1947, By Ray Olsen, from film negative The Second World War saw a huge influx of soldiers and sailors to Kings Cross. By 1947 the party was over, and ‘the Cross’ had gone back to normal; or as near normal as it was ever likely to be. Women in furs still slipped into expensive restaurants for dinner, while unshaven men in singlets hovered around the back alleys. This young couple were photographed trying to find a party on a Sunday evening. There was always a party: whether it was cocktails, caviar and Noël Coward in a Macleay Street flat; or beer, hamburgers and boogie-woogie on Brougham Street.
