| 説明 | A tram ride in Malawati village in Kuala Selangor up the hill to Bukit Malawati (Malawati Hill) is part of the Kuala Selangor fireflies tour. Bukit Melawati was the administrative center and stronghold of the Selangor Sultanate in the late 18th and early 19th century. The formidable fort once stood on the summit- it was built during the reign of Sultan Ibrahim from 1782 to 1826 to fight against the Dutch. Selangor had unfortunately been sucked into the battle between the Dutch and the ruler of Johor and Riau. I could not spot the fort when I went there, but there was definitely a museum on top of the hill, which was unfortunately closed. The fort fell to the Dutch in 1784, who promptly renamed it as Altingsburd Fort, but they did not hold it for long. The local ruler Butn Ibrahim recaptured the fort in January 1785 in a daring night attack. The victory was significant as it was the first time that a local ruler had been able to re-take his fort from a foreign power.
