説明 | Farringdon Station (Elizabeth Line and Thameslink), 19 August 2023.The first station was opened in January 1863 (named Farringdon Street) as the eastern terminus of the Metropolitan Railway’s sub-surface line from Paddington (Bishop’s Road) - the first underground railway in the world. In 1866 the MR built additional lines – the Metropolitan Widened Lines – parallel to its underground lines from Kings Cross/St. Pancras for the Midland Railway’s and Great Northern Railway’s own suburban routes to Moorgate and also via the London, Chatham & Dover Railway’s Snow Hill Tunnel to Blackfriars main line station. New platforms were built next to the MR’s platforms. However, in 2009 the Widened Lines stretch from Farringdon to Moorgate was severed as new, longer Thameslink trains could not be easily accommodated at Moorgate and they now proceed from Farringdon to Blackfriars and beyond. New entrances and ticket halls were provided at the same time. These also serve TfL’s Crossrail/Elizabeth Line trains running on their own dedicated large tube tunnels since 2022.Pictured is the 2022 Elizabeth Line and Thameslink Station ticket hall. |
