The latter was her own daughter, whom she much preferred her; while her stepdaughter had to do all the work, spinning at the well every day until the blood ran down her fingers. One day the spindle fell into the well while she was washing, so the girl had to jump in to retrieve it, and passed out.Uniform title: Grimm: Frau Holle (“Mother Hulda”)Dimensions: 141 x 91 mm.Date: 1922 or earlierNationality: GermanPublisher: Verlag: Farbenphotographische Gesellschaft m.b.H., Stuttgart, [Germany]Series: Serie 139 Nr. 3794Medium: Uvachrom color print from original watercolor paintingInterpretive notes: The cruel stepmother forces her stepdaughter to do all of the work, including spinning while seated by the well.
