説明 | Built in 1927 and expanded in 1951 and in the mid-20th Century, this Classical Revival-style building was designed by Clarence H. Johnston, Sr. for the University of Minnesota’s Physics Department, and was later renamed for John Torrence Tate, a physicist and former longtime physics professor at the university. The building features a red english bond brick exterior with stone trim, one-over-one windows, a stone base, a three-story portico with fluted ionic columns, a cornice with modillions, a hipped roof, and pilasters at the corners of the building. The building is one of the many Classical Revival structures lining the Northrop Mall, planned by Cass Gilbert in the early 20th Century, and is a contributing structure in the Northrop Mall Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. |
