説明 | Built in 1896, this Romanesque Revival-style building was designed by Charles Aldrich to serve as the University of Minnesota Armory. The building features a cream brick exterior, extensive brick corbeling and machicolations, one-over-one windows, some of which fill roman arched bays, a rough-hewn stone base, crenellated parapets, hipped roofs, cylindrical towers, the tallest of which features a wrap-around balcony at the top story and a conical roof topped with a flagpole, a large roman arched entrance bay on the west facade that leads inside the building via a short barrel vaulted sally port, and turrets at the corners of the building. The building is a contributing structure in the University of Minnesota Old Campus Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, and today houses the Reserve Officers Training Corps Program, or ROTC. |
