| 説明 | Built in 1871-1873, this Gothic Revival-style church was designed by Alfred Green to house the congregation of St. Patrick Catholic Church, founded in 1853, being the oldest Catholic parish on Cleveland’s west side. The building is clad in limestone with a tower in the center of the front facade, topped with a crenellated parapet, a front-gable roof, lancet stained glass windows, a semi-circular rear apse, and buttresses on the side facades. In 1903, a Beaux Arts-style school building was constructed to the west of the church to serve as the parochial school, which operated until 1976. A renovation in 1913 led to the decoration of the sanctuary, the installation of the present stained glass windows, the construction of the present rectory, the completion of the top of the tower, and the creation of the sacristy. The church, however, was not consecrated until 1931, when the debt from the construction and renovation were paid off. The building is a contributing structure in the Ohio City Preservation District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The building was renovated in the 1990s, and today continues to serve as a Roman Catholic parish. |
