| 説明 | Built in 1907, this Classical Revival-style facade was designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw for the Ginn Publishing Company, and later became home to the Platt Luggage Company. The facade was moved in 2007 to make way for the expansion of McCormick Place and reused as a facade for the heating and cooling plant for the convention center, with the work being overseen by the architecture firm of Antunovich and Associates. The facade is constructed of brown brick with doric brick doric columns, and features eight-over-eight double-hung windows, stone trim, including decorative spandrel panels with reliefs, awnings with corbels and modillions, an architrave with a cornice featuring modillions, a cartouche in the middle of the parapet, arched openings on the first floor, and a stone base. The rear of the building is utilitarian and clad in exterior panels and concrete, and a large metal water tank in the rear. The structure is part of the massive McCormick Place Convention Center complex, which occupies a large area of land south of the Chicago Loop adjacent to the city’s lakefront. |
