| 説明 | Built in 1928, these Art Deco and Classical Revival-style buildings were designed by two different prominent Chicago architectural firms, with the Engineering Building being designed by Burnham Brothers, and the Chicago Evening Post Building being designed by Holabird and Root. The 23-story, 255 foot (77 meter) Engineering Building features a terra cotta facade with decorative trim at the parapet and upper level windows, with the base, which contrasts in color from the rest of the building, featuring decorative reliefs, spandrel panels, and a relatively simple first floor with multiple retail spaces. The Chicago Evening Post Building features a limestone-clad base with brass trim at the bays on the first floor of the Wacker Drive facade, with recessed bays above featuring engaged fluted columns, and the sides featuring tall curtain wall bays of similar height, but separated by relatively simple stone cladding, with a cornice forming the terminus of the base, above which the building is clad in cream brick with more spartan limestone trim up to the three top floors, where the central bays feature fluted pilasters. The buildings are contributing structures in the West Loop–LaSalle Street Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013, and today remain in use as office buildings. |
