| 説明 | A group walk from Bristol to Bath on the 'Railway Walk', mostly on the trackbed of the former Midland Railway line between the two cities. This is the trainshed of the former Midland Railway Bath Green Park terminus, mainly used by local trains from Bristol and by trains over the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway line to Bournemouth. Not all trains were short in length or in distance travelled. The 12 coach Pines Express ran from Manchester to Bournemouth and back Monday to Saturday throughout the year, and on Summer Saturdays it would be joined by numerous other 8-12 coach trains from the North and the Midlands, re-engined here as the train reversed, with two locomotives required for many of the through trains as within half a mile from here they tackled the heavily graded climb over Mendip. Tight timetabling and good timekeeping would also be needed to avoid delaying other services on the long single line sections. |
