| 説明 | Built in 1901, this building was constructed to serve as a delivery horse stable for the Marshall Field’s Company, a retailer. In 1985, the building was converted into the Briar Street Theatre, a live performance venue, which heavily reconfigured and altered the interior, while leaving the outside mostly unchanged. The building features a red brick exterior with a simple cornice, banded reveals on the upper section of the building with small square windows on the second floor, large windows on the first floor, large doorways that used to allow passage of carriages and horses into and out of the building, a band of belt coursing at the base of the second story windows, terra cotta medallions below the cornice, and a low-slope roof enclosed by a parapet. The theater has housed performances by the Blue Man Group since 1997, which remains quite popular. The building is a contributing structure in the Lakeview Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. |
