| 説明 | Built in 1913, this Chicago School and Renaissance Revival and Chicago School-style building was designed by Paul F. Mann for Harlow C. Curtiss as an office building, with Curtiss later building a similarly-sized commercial office building on Delaware Avenue eleven years later. The building appears to draw inspiration from the work of Daniel Burnham and Louis Sullivan, both of whom designed buildings elsewhere in Downtown Buffalo in the 1890s. The building features a white terra cotta-clad exterior, Chicago-style tripartite windows on the second through fifth floors, a first floor with storefronts below the window bays above, decorative terra cotta pilasters and trim, recessed spandrels between the windows on the second through fifth floors, a ring of simpler windows on the sixth floor, a bracketed cornice at the top of the building’s parapet, which encloses a low-slope roof, and a canopy on the Huron Street first floor facade supported by decorative columns, brackets, and beams, with a cast iron railing on the roof, which was added during the building’s recent rehabilitation, along with a glassy rooftop penthouse and a corner rooftop terrace. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, and has been adaptively reused and rehabbed, now being home to the upscale Curtiss Hotel, along with a fine dining establishment on the first floor. |
