| 説明 | The Canadian Pacific (ex-Milwaukee Road) swing bridge over the Menomonee River in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Just east of 2nd Street and the Milwaukee Amtrak station (Intermodal station). Looking east toward the Milwaukee River. You can see the arch of the Hoan Bridge (Interstate 794) in the distance.Very busy with train traffic, the bridge carries a double-track main line of Canadian Pacific from Chicago to Minneapolis and the Pacific Northwest. It also hosts about 18 Amtrak trains a day (~16 Hiawathas per day, plus a long-distance Empire Builder in each direction).John Marvig's railroad bridge website describes this as a rare bobtail swing bridge, and notes it was built in 1904. I have seen the truss structure described as a Warren through truss.Photo taken November 2022. Original key: IMG_2130 |
