| 説明 | Curly dock, also known as yellow dock. Scientific name Rumex crispus. Greendale, Wisconsin, early August 2022. A common weed in open fields and disturbed areas in North America. It is native to Europe and western Asia, and an invasive species in North America. Often easily spotted in late summer because its fruits, seeds and stems quickly turn dark rusty brown at maturity in midsummer. When other herbs and grasses around them are vibrant shades of green, curly dock will stand out as a spike of rusty brown. In the Polygonaceae family within the Caryophyllales order. The Rumex genus contains plants typically known as the docks and sorrels.Original key: IMG_9839 |
