| 説明 | A selfie against the Shiva- Parvati carving at the Ellora caves. (see previous picture). This picture probably also includes one of their sons. (the other son- the elephant headed Ganesha- is missing here). The caves at Ellora- also spelled Elura- earlier known as Verul Leni- are, a series of 34 magnificent rock-cut temples, located about 30 km from Aurangabad, in northwest-central Maharashtra, western India. Spread out along a rock face over a distance of about 2 km, the cave temples were cut from basaltic cliffs and have elaborate facades and interior walls. The Ellora complex was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983. Detailed notes about the Ellora caves appear elsewhere in this album. (see previous and subsequent pictures later in this album). (Ellora Caves, near Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Dec. 2022) |
