| 説明 | Another day in Goa, another bout of sightseeing. This day I find myself taking the ferry to Divar Island off the coast of Panjim. The island of Divar (formerly Piedade) (derived from the word Dipavati or 'small Island' in Konkani) lies on the Mandovi river in the Indian state of Goa. Divar is one of the of six major islands on the Mandovi, We will talk about Divar as we go along in this album. (see subsequent pictures later in this album). But now back to this ferry- I have spoken in some detail earlier about the vehicle ferries in Goa (see previous pictures earlier in this album), so will not prolong the commentary. The River Navigation Department, Government of Goa, is instrumental in providing transportation services to commuters living on the outlying islands Goa who have to depend on ferry services entirely as most of them have no road access to the mainland. Ferry services generally operate round the clock and the flat bottom vessels are suited for transporting passengers, their vehicles and goods. (Goa India, Nov/ Dec. 2022) |
