| 説明 | Leaf Beetles - Phaedon genus, family Chrysomelidae. On Fool's-water-cress, Apium nodiflorum, in a channel by the River Itchen, St Cross, Winchester, UK, 4th October 2010. Anyone know which species?One of the amazing things about these beetles was their seeming clumsiness in moving from plant to plant. This group have eaten all the leaves on this stem of Fool's Watercress. There were plenty of untouched stems emerging from the water within half a metre's radius of this one but they didn't seem to be very good at getting there. They float quite well, surving long periods in the water after falling in, but didn't seem happy in the water and had considerable trouble getting out again. I never saw one fly but perhaps it was not warm enough for that on the days I was there. |
