| 説明 | Taken from adjacent the Red Cater at the highest point of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Central Crater to the left and Oturere Valley to the right. If you look very closely you can see some human ants by the Emerald Lakes. You can see the Tongariro Crossing track to the right of the Central Crater. The track that I took to Oturere Hut skirts around the lower of the Emerald Lakes and drops down into the Oturere Valley."The Emerald Lakes are strikingly green and the Blue Lake is the colour of the sky on a clear summer’s day. The Maori name for the Emerald Lakes is Ngarotopounamu, meaning greenstone-hued lakes. It’s the magical combination of volcanic mineral and sunlight that gives the Emerald Lakes their beautiful green glow. The colour is created when sunlight reflects off a while layer of calcium carbonate (marl) settled on the lake bed. The marl is made when dissolving limestone reacts with the calcium naturally found in the water." the-park.co.nz/iconic-emerald-and-blue-lakes-in-tongariro |
