| 説明 | Built in 1909, this Beaux Arts-style building was constructed to house the Central Cafe, a large saloon, before becoming home to the Bellevue Bank after World War I and the passage of the 18th Amendment to the US Constitution, banning the sale and production of alcohol. The building features a brick exterior with wine red brick panels broken up by buff brick trim and accents, a red tile hipped roof with multiple gabled wall dormers with decorative brackets and arched windows, one-over-one double-hung windows on the second and third floors, a parapet with a decorative stone trim cap wrapping the base of the hipped roof, a cornice with brackets, a one-story 1970s side addition and rear drive through canopy, and a heavily modified first floor with cladding added in the 1970s when the building became home to a branch of Fifth Third Bank, which was removed in the summer of 2022. The building presently houses office space, and despite its modifications, maintains most of its original character-defining features on the second and third floors, with the first floor facade being surprisingly intact under the later modifications. The building is a contributing structure in the Fairfield Avenue Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. |
