| 説明 | Built in 1900, this Richardsonian Romanesque Revival-style former pumping station was designed by Oliver G. Traphaven for the Honolulu Waterworks. The building features a rusticated stone exterior with a green tile roof featuring many gables and hipped sections, arched openings with steel windows and wooden doors, decorative corbeling below the roofline, banded trim, a bay window on the front, a decorative front gable parapet, a 76-foot-tall chimney made of smooth faced stone blocks, a large central arched window bay at the central gable, and two rear outbuildings with similar details, one of which is built of smooth faced stone blocks. In use as a pumping station until 1940, when it was replaced by the Ala Moana Pumping Station. The building sat disused for many decades, eventually being listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The building has since been rehabilitated and restored by the nonprofit Hawaii Architectural Foundation, and today houses the Na Kapuna Makamae Ohana Senior Center, which serves the local community with various social services. |
