| 説明 | Built circa 1900, this Romanesque Revival-style former brewery was designed by Hermann Steinmann for the Honolulu Malting and Brewing Company, which operated in the building from 1900 until prohibition began in 1918. Following the repeal of prohibition, the building became home to the American Brewing Company, which remained in the building until 1963. The building features a red brick exterior with a decorative parapet, arched transoms over six-over-six double-hung windows on the fourth floor, a variety of types and designs of double-hung, fixed, and casement windows on the lower floors, arched trim panels over windows on the third floor, recessed vertical window bays with brick spandrels, an entrance at one end of the front facade with cast iron pilasters, a side facade with arched windows, and is attached to the large postmodern-style Honuakaha Building to the rear. The building was adaptively reused in 1996 as an office wing of the Honuakaha Building, with the building now serving as offices for the Hawaii Community Development Authority. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. |
