| 説明 | The photograph was taken from the Liverpool entrance going towards Birkenhead.The Mersey Tunnel under the River Mersey, between Liverpool and Birkenhead, was begun in December 1925 and opened by King George V., 18th July 1934. Length, 2.13 miles. Cost £7,077,800.Arms : Or masoned sable, a pellet; on a chief gules a cormorant between two estoiles of the field.Crest: On a wreath of the colours, Two lions salient respectant gules holding between their forepaws a wheel Or.Supporters: On the dexter side a representation of Apollo and on the sinister side a representation of Pluto, both proper.The arms were officially granted on August 14, 1952.Title means 'and they were holding out their hands (with a love for the further shore)', and is from Virgil's Aenid, Book VI.
