| 説明 | Built between 1973 and 1975, this Modern state office building with Brutalist elements was designed by Shoso Kagawa & Associates for the State of Hawaii. The building features an exterior with gridded walls with concrete fins and spandrel panels, vertical slit windows and horizontal ribbon windows, large expanses of textured rough concrete, two breezeways where entrances to the building are located, which puncture the front and rear facades below cantilevered sections of the fourth floor that feature curtain walls depicting traditional Hawaiian art and legends, utilizing varying sizes and shapes of glass to create various shapes and forms, with all four of these walls displaying a different scene, with what these exactly depict not known as not much information about this building is available when trying to research public records about its design online. The building is capped with a cantilevered low-slope roof with a low profile concrete parapet, with an underground parking garage below the building, and surrounded by landscaped grounds, including large expanses of grassy lawns, paved walkways and plazas, and concrete planters made up of intersecting squares. The building is one of the finest modernist/brutalist government buildings in Honolulu, and presently houses various government offices for the State of Hawaii. |
