| 説明 | The memorial at the Hartness family plot in Section 1 at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.John Hartness (1807-1884) was a successful pharmacist in Cleveland. His wife was Catherine Hartness (1807-1883). They had two sons: James A. Hartness (1833–1920) and William H. Hartness (1836-1912). William took over the business, and added a partner, Bruce Huling. The firm of Hartness & Huling was one of the most famous pharmacies and druggist shops in Cleveland in the 1880s. James became a mechanical engineer, became a partner in the famous Jones & Lamson Machine Co., invented the flat turret lathe, and built the world's first turret equatorial telescope.John Hartness's daughter, Mahala (1843-1888) married Hiram M. Brown (1832-1911), a wealthy dry goods merchant and co-founder of the Euclid Avenue National Bank. The Hartness and Brown businesses were close by one another. The date of this memorial is not known, but it is likely after the death of William H. Hartness in 1912. The designer and manufacturer are not known. |
