| 説明 | Built in 1961, this modernist high-rise apartment building was designed by Wimberly & Cook. The building features side facades with large expanses of blank concrete at the ends, with a geometric hexagonal concrete screen wall divided into three segments in the center, with the facade facing Kalakaua Avenue featuring a tall rectangular concrete “frame” running from the second floor up to the roof, within which are staggered balconies, screen walls at the second floor, large windows, and doors in pairs on each floor, with the facade facing the ocean featuring balconies extending the entire width of the building. The building is one of several large residential buildings constructed at the base of Diamond Head between the late 1950s and late 1960s, which dramatically altered the appearance of this area of Honolulu. |
