| 説明 | Built in 1888 and 1903-04, these buildings stand along Nuuanu Avenue in Honolulu’s Chinatown neighborhood. The Perry Block, built in 1888 following the 1886 Chinatown fire, and features a masonry facade that imitates cast iron building facades, divided into panels by trim and pilasters, extensive brick corbeling at the cornice, a parapet with a decorative gabled section at the center of the principal facade, arched one-over-one windows with decorative headers, and arched openings on the first floor. The McLean Block, built in 1903-04, was built following the 1900 Chinatown fire, and was designed by Oliver G. Traphagan, and features a bracketed cornice with dentils, arched second story windows with decorative trim, a stepped parapet, and multiple first floor retail spaces. The buildings are contributing structures in the Chinatown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. |
