説明Graduating from high school in 1948, Ken did university work at both Miami and Cedarville Unversities and received his Bachelor in Education in 1952. Later in his teaching career, he also completed graduate work ar the University of Cincinnati (1977). Shortly after his 1952 college graduation Ken served his country in the early 50's in the Korean War conflct. In 1954 teacher/coach Ken Carpenter accepted his first teaching position at Centerville High School. For two years he taught American history, government, and driver's education; also he coached track, football, and junior high basketball. In the summer of 1956, teacher/coach Ken Carpenter drove his late model powder blue Cadillac convertible into the NHS parking lot, as he had chosen to change positions and work for the Polar Bears. Again, he taught various subjects—science, history, driver's education. In those early years Ken stepped up to coach many different teams-- varsity football, track, cross country, and varsity basketball. He inspired his athletes, and they did well as individuals and as teams. Later in his career he worked as the district attendance counselor and served as coordinator on the Occuoations work-study programs. As an OWE teacher, Ken worked diligently to help Northridge students in both academics and job placement. He chose to retire in 1984. In his words, “My greatest honor was to see my students suceed.”Ken has continued his involvement and service to others as he works for the “Needy Baskets” program in Tipp City. Also, he has participated in the “Light the Night Walk” for the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society. In the late sixties ken courted and married his bride Sharon Osborn who was also teaching in the district at Morrison Elementary. Together they have a daughter Kendra, who is a graduate of Purdue University and Capitol University's Law School. She works as an attorney in Columbus. Following are quotes from Coach Carpenter's former NHS athletes: “As the ofensive coordinator, coach had us using the option run and pass, calling audibles, and making blocking calls on the line of scrimmage . . . he trusted us . . ““Coach was caring. low keyed. dedicated, sincere, and knowledgeable . . .he had outstanding student-athlete raport.”“I was not much of an athlete, did not excel, tried my best, and he always made me feel that I was part of the team . . ““Ken worked with students who were experiencing limited success; he always had the utmost respect for them.”“Coach volunteered his time on Saturday mornings for 8th grade pick-up games. He was later my varsity coach; he was both well liked and sucessful.”
